Descent: Freespace takes place in the future, and humanity, in the form of the Galactic Terran Alliance, is in the midst of an interstellar conflict with a species called the Vasudans; however, when a third force shows up and starts attacking both Terran and Vasudan alike, the two species team up to take the fight to the newcomers -- called the Shivans -- before their campaign of conquest reaches Earth!
